Term:  Per Stirpes

Per Stirpes—Latin for “by the roots” and term used in wills to describe a distribution when beneficiaries die before the deceased. Children inherit instead of their parents as if their parent were still alive. Gifts do not fail but pass down through the beneficiary’s bloodline.
