Term:  Estate Taxes

Estate Taxes—in Canada there are no inheritance taxes based on the overall size of the estate. Federal income tax treats some assets as income on death. Certain assets are deemed sold at fair market value when persons die and values are included for income tax calculation. No sale takes place and no sale proceeds are received. Taxable value is included as income.
