Estate Administration Tax EAT—Ontario’s provincial probate tax is paid on certain assets. You pay this tax when you apply for certificates of appointment as estate trustee with or without wills. It is not an inheritance tax. Assets, such as designated assets with specifically named beneficiaries, jointly owned property with rights of survivorship and real estate outside of Ontario, are not subject to EAT.
