Term:  Cy-près

Cy-près—doctrine for gifts to charities or charitable purposes that are no longer in existence or impossible, or impractical to carry out. The doctrine prevents gifts from failing if courts can use cy-près (close as possible), to amend or salvage charitable gifts. Courts can substitute similar current charities for the initial failed gift to charity.
