6. Your Age Considerations as Ontario Executor
If you are 82 and live 3,000 miles away, you must seriously consider renouncing as executor. You don’t want to impair your health by administering an estate. Long-distance is a terrible way to find out you have a fire you can’t put out.
Don’t start acting as an executor if you are afraid you will not be able to finish the job. If, for whatever reason, you have to resign after you start, you will need to hire a lawyer and go through the court process to ask for permission from beneficiaries and a judge.
Renouncing is not a time consuming or costly process before you begin meddling in the estate’s affairs.
